Numerica Hosts A Free Presentation With Security Expert Jim Stickley

Spokane Valley, WA - 06/13/08 - Information security, social engineering, and network vulnerabilities – all concepts that may sound boring to anyone other than your company’s IT department. However, this presentation, hosted by Numerica Credit Union and scheduled for June 18, 5:30 p.m. at the Numerica Headquarters (14610 E. Sprague in Spokane Valley), is anything but boring.

Jim Stickley, Vice President and CTO of TraceSecurity, is a renowned security expert, and his presentation on the topic promises to be entertaining. Stickley doesn’t receive constant attention from national media networks and magazines because of his dull conversation. In fact his wit and charm, combined with vital security expertise, have generated stories on 20/20, Network Associates, and numerous magazines and newspapers. He was featured in Time Magazine, Business Week, Fortune Magazine, New York Times and other industry-specific publications, such as PC Magazine and Security Focus. He has also been showcased on NBC's "Nightly News", CNN's "NewsNight", CNBC’s “The Big Idea” and numerous times on NBC's "Today Show".

CIO Magazine (March 10, 2008) called Stickley a “social engineer, con artist, penetration tester, or white hat hacker” in their recent article titled, “Seven Dirty IT Jobs.” He didn’t earn the recognition because actual grub and grime is a part of his job; it was Stickley’s “lying, cheating, stealing, breaking, and entering for penetration testing of enterprise networks” – along with his knowledge of hacking, malware, and forgery that makes his job just plain “dirty.” However, call it what you may, Stickley is an expert on how to steal your clients’ and members’ information, which also makes him an expert on how to keep their personal information safe.

“As a financial institution, we take every measure possible to protect our members’ personal information, “ said Dennis Cutter, President and CEO of Numerica. “Working with TraceSecurity and Jim Stickley to implement their social engineering programs has enabled us to do this.”

Cutter further explained that it is important for businesses to practice safe handling of client and member information in order to make our community a safe place to live and do business. “We felt that asking Jim to share his security knowledge with other businesses and financial institutions would be a benefit to the Spokane area communities,” Cutter said.
