Resolved: Maybe This Year

For many of us, January 1 marks the end of a period of remembrance of the passing year, with many reminders on radio, television, and in newspapers of what has transpired around the world during the previous 365 days. Topics often covered by the media include politics, natural disasters, music and the arts, as well as the listing of significant individuals who died during the year. This year will be no different; but with the death of Former President Gerald Ford so close to year-end, there will certainly be many remembrances of him and his family.

Apart from remembering national and international events and the antics of famous people, though, New Year's Day offers each of us individually a chance to look back at what we have personally accomplished or missed out on as time has continued to march forward, and then to resolve to change the things we can and learn to accept the things we cannot change.

Do you plan to make any changes this year? Will you be making any New Year's resolutions? Maybe you'll resolve to quit smoking or drinking or to lose weight or get physically fit. Maybe it's time for a new job, or maybe this will be your year to save enough money for a downpayment on a new home or to pay off a credit card balance that you've carried all during 2006.

A long time ago, I quit making New Year's resolutions because I knew I wouldn't keep them; but maybe this year will be different for me, too. Maybe this year I will WANT to stop smoking or lose weight or whatever enough that it will really happen. Only time will tell.

Do you have any "success" stories to share about New Year's resolutions you made and kept? What resolutions are you making this year? If you used to make resolutions but don't any more, what made you change your mind? Do you have any funny stories about someone else and New Year's resolutions? Do you have any special memories of 2006 you want to share? If you do, then email us and we'll post them online.

Happy New Year!
